From Decommissioned Pool to Nursery Play Area!

We had the pleasure of working with Watermead Day Nursery and Pre-school in Loughborough, Leicestershire. The Nursery, with an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating wanted to make use of their space by decommissioning an unused swimming pool in their grounds.

Watermead offers a secure, safe environment, across two adjacent settings situated on a quiet residential street. The Nursery promote learning in a wide variety of areas including a Forest School to explore the great outdoors, learn to play sports with a resident PE coach, enjoy music and movement in class settings and develop their artistic skills.

After an initial visit, consultation and survey a Pool-span specification was recommended for their bespoke pool cover which consists of a series of stainless steel ‘beams’ spanned and secured across the pool with timber decks placed on top, followed by an artificial grass finish. Pool-span has a secure and safe loading of 7kN/m2 and is suitable for walking, dining, dancing and most importantly playing on!

The pool is set in a sun trapped area to the side of the main nursery building and creates a fantastic new play area. During construction the children viewed the progress and asked our Installation Team questions. It was an exciting time for them to see the complete transformation of an area of their nursery.

Future plans include the construction of a gazebo or canopy over the grassed area due to the amount of sunshine and to keep the little ones safe. An open day is planned in the coming months
where parents and visitors will be able to view the new play space.
