From Decommissioned Swimming Pool to Games Room in West Sussex

Our Client contacted us whilst exploring ideas on how to create a hard floor over their decommissioned swimming pool and create a functional space that they could use as a seating and games room.  Even though the pool was no longer in use, they wanted to keep the structure.

The property is a beautiful premises in West Sussex with a sea view, only 100 metres from the beach.  The swimming pool, installed 8 years ago, is a concrete and tile design with step access.

After an initial consultation to discuss some possible challenges of the project, such as the water table (being so close to the sea) and the room dimensions (not being square in a c1900 property) we arranged a visit to survey the pool to produce a concept drawing.

Our Client wished to install an American 9ft pool table at the wide end of the pool, with an approximate weight of 400kg and had concerns over the weight loading of the Pool-span system.  We reassured him that Pool-span is capable of supporting a pool table over the swimming pool based on our design.

During the survey and after discussions regarding the use of the space, our client made the decision to cover the complete floor once the pool cover was complete.  This can be an advantage when working with decommissioned pools as the finished result is a flush finish which doesn’t show the original shape of the swimming pool.  A discreet small hatch is installed for access within the swimming pool void.

Our Client chose a whole floor cover system consisting of Pool-span beams, timber floor covering and a final finish of Amtico^® luxury vinyl tiles in ‘Worn Concrete’ from the Signature range.
