Transforming a Grade II Listed Property in Oxfordshire for a Celebrity Wedding Using Pool-dek

We were contacted by Apollo Event Consultants Ltd in Haslemere, Surrey as they were looking for a pool cover solution which would convert a swimming pool room into a wedding reception dining area for over 130 guests.  The wedding was to be a high-end celebrity wedding in a Grade II Listed private property in beautiful rural Oxfordshire.  At this stage of the event planning, final details were being discussed with the Client which involved how to cover or fill in the pool temporarily for the event.

After we had determined the initial requirements and checked availability, we arranged to visit the property to carry out a full survey and discuss the specification with the event organisers.  A full consultation allowed us to examine the swimming pool to ensure that it was suitable to take the Pool-dek system.  The bottom of the pool was of a curved design with vertical sides which were also curved and not at 90°.

We produced a set of working drawings of the pool and the Pool-dek system together with a proposal and agreed this with the Client. Installation was carried out in less than a day where the pool had been completely drained in order to brace the system safely to the sides and bottom of the pool.

Pool-dek is free standing and self-supporting and not fixed to the sides or bottom of the pool and Pool-dek is usually fitted into a water filled swimming pool but due to the nature of this pool shape it had to be emptied.

The transformation of the room was amazing.  The pool space was to be used as the wedding reception dining area for over 130 guests.  The finished article consisted of a bohemian atmosphere, both dark and romantic in the light of the two huge sparkling chandeliers and greenery in the atrium above candlelit tables.  The room held an earthy, rustic feel using the exposed walls and green colour schemes to complete the design.

Feedback has been extremely positive, and the event was a huge success.  Once the event was over, our installation team returned to the property to completely remove the system in less than a day, where the pool can be refilled.  A perfect example of utilising a beautiful pool space to host a private party in your own home.
