The project began with contact from a prestigious design agency, Morphis Design. Their client, based in Hong Kong, were keen to have a pool cover to host parties outside incorporating part of the garden design they had developed. The system must not compromise the construction of the swimming pool and allow for easy removal and installation when necessary. The solution needed to withstand the high rainfall, humidity and temperature variations for their challenging climate.
Pool-dek is a pool covering system designed to convert a swimming pool room, or outdoor pool area and transform it into a functional event space without the need to drain the pool.
The system was well received and to the Client’s satisfaction for this specific project. They requested drawings and technical specifications for further information and progress. We were advised of the paving material being used, a silver shell limestone to allow us to match the finish if necessary.
Mount Nicholson is a 430m, 1411ft tall mountain located on Hong Kong Island and is one of the most exclusive residential areas of the area. Views include the spectacular mountain and sea views of Victoria Harbour. Each property is designed to include a private garden with featured landscaping and a swimming pool.
At the narrow end we included for special shaped panels to fit around the protrusion into the pool and accommodate the angles and steps. We allowed for deck panels to be manufactured using Tricoya with an Accoya edging to the perimeter of the panel. The swimming pool perimeter deck panels had an Accoya 80mm wide trim with a black rubber protection gasket providing a 30mm lip to the perimeter of the Pool-dek. The stainless-steel parts, which come into contact with the pool, include rubber protective pads on the underside to save any wear on the pool’s surround.
By building key relationships not only with the Design Agency, Morphis Design, but with the Client and the construction company, Canal Group, we were always available to discuss technical specifications, challenges, amendments and logistical details of getting our UK manufactured product to Hong Kong ready for installation.
With any overseas installation of Pool-dek we include an initial site survey to assess the swimming pool in-situ and the surrounding area for access and egress. This is also a great opportunity to carry out a final consultation before installation works proceed.
Space is sold at a premium in Hong Kong, Pool-dek’s mission and concept is based on space saving whilst not compromising on quality or the use of the swimming pool.
